From 2010 to 2012, Hackett worked as an offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills in the NFL, as well as several positions for the Syracuse Orange in college football. He was the head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2022, but he was fired after a 4-11 record.

After working as an assistant coach at Stanford and UC Davis, Hackett began his NFL career in 2006 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Jon Gruden.

He spent two years there before making the switch to the Buffalo Bills, where he played the same position in 2008 and 2009.

He worked with quarterbacks like Brian Brohm, Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Simms, Jeff Garcia, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Chris Simms during those years.

2010 saw the hiring of Hackett by Syracuse as Doug Marrone’s tight ends and quarterbacks coach. Later, Hackett went to Buffalo and Jacksonville with Marrone. Hackett was promoted to offensive coordinator the following year.
