Kehlani was born on April 24, 1995, in Oakland, California. She was adopted and raised by her aunt when her mother, who had a drug addiction, served time in jail. Kehlani’s father, who also had a drug addiction, died when she was a toddler.
The award-winning singer attended Oakland School for the Arts, where she learned to dance, particularly ballet and modern dance. Kehlani also trained as a dancer at the Juilliard School but had a knee injury that made her turn her attention to singing.

Kehlani rose to fame as a member of the teen group Poplyfe in 2011 and is best known for her debut commercial mixtape Cloud 19 in 2014. As of November 2022, Kehlani had an estimated net worth of about $6 million

Kehlani has at least 11 known tattoos. She did her 1st tattoo when she was 16. In an interview with Power 106, Kehlani revealed that her attempted suicide was due to the negative media response as well as his 1st major heartbreak.
Whiles recovering, she got a tattoo that says “Perdida y encontrada” which in English translates to “lost and found”. Some of her tattoos include; (Reggie Rocket, Today is the best day ever, dagger, rose, and spider) on her calf, (skateboard, and Pulp Fiction characters) on her thighs, (dots) below her eyes, (Espíritu Libre, Queen of Hearts, paper airplane) on her face, and (Spanish writing and waves) on her neck.
On January 5, 2018, Kehlani posted a photo to Instagram showing that the woke hand tattoo had been now covered up with a lotus flower; she stated that ‘she felt that her hand would speak for her before she even gets a chance to open her mouth.’
