Charlotte Gainsbourg was born in London, United Kingdom to her parents; Jane Birkin (mother) and Serge Gainsbourg (father).
Her mother (born on December 14, 1946, and died on July 16, 2023) was a singer and actress while her father (born on April 2, 1928 and died on March 2, 1991) was a French singer-songwriter, actor, composer, and director.
The pair met on set in 1968 while shooting the film; “Slogan”. The duo later went ahead to release their debut album Jane Birkin/Serge Gainsbourg in 1969.
Under Serge’s direction, Birkin also appeared in the controversial film Je t’aime moi non plus and went on to star in Death On The Nile, and Evil Under The Sun.
Jane and Serge were not married. However, during their romantic and creative relationship, they gave birth to Charlotte Gainsbourg on Wednesday, July 21, 1971.
